The Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Souk Ahras hosts a nature reserve known as the “Borqas Reserve.” It is one of the region’s most significant protected natural areas, serving as a rich biological heritage site. The reserve is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including several rare and endangered ones.

The repository’s user-friendly online platform is designed to facilitate easy access, enabling users to search, browse, and download materials freely. The interface is equipped with advanced search features, allowing users to filter results by author, title, publication date, and subject area, thus enhancing the discoverability of resources. The platform’s commitment to open access ensures that these materials are freely available to anyone with an internet connection, promoting equitable access to knowledge.

The library offers a range of facilities, including quiet reading areas, group study halls, and electronic research rooms with access to digital databases. A team of expert librarians provides personalized assistance, guiding researchers to useful resources and offering support with information retrieval.

11.2.4 – Souk Ahras University features a variety of beautiful green spaces spread across its various faculties and annexes. During events such as open days, exhibitions, and other visits, the administration allows visitors to enjoy these spaces free of charge. Additionally, as previously mentioned, the Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences includes the “Bourgass” Nature Reserve, which is also open to the public for free entry.
11.2.5 & 11.2.6 – The University of Souk Ahras is home to the Directorate of Cultural, Scientific, and Sports Activities, which plays a central role in organizing a diverse range of events and activities for students. The directorate’s scope includes:

As part of the event, the minister presented a special honor to Mohamed Cherif Messaadia University, donating a collection of historical books. University Director, Prof. Noura Moussa, accepted the donation and pledged to make the collection available to the Department of History Library.

11.4.1 – The University of Souk Ahras is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment by ensuring that all its facilities are fully accessible to individuals with disabilities. This commitment is reflected in the university’s continuous efforts to provide appropriate infrastructure and support systems, enabling every member of the community to participate fully and achieve their potential.
To accommodate the diverse needs of people with disabilities, the university has implemented barrier-free pathways where The campus features well-designed pedestrian pathways that are smooth and wide, allowing easy navigation for individuals using wheelchairs, crutches, or other mobility aids.
In addition to physical accessibility features, the University of Souk Ahras has implemented pedestrian pathways with clear directional signage throughout the campus. These pathways are designed with:

11.4.2 – The Algerian government offers a dedicated transportation service for students enrolled in public higher education institutions. This initiative is part of a comprehensive program aimed at facilitating student access to educational facilities by providing an extensive network of public buses exclusively designated for university students. The bus network covers a wide range of routes across different regions, ensuring that students from various neighborhoods and surrounding areas can reach their campus with ease.
To benefit from this service, students must be officially registered at a public university and are required to pay a nominal annual fee of 135 Algerian dinars, which is equivalent to approximately 0.86 euros. This symbolic fee represents a significant government subsidy, making the service highly accessible to all students regardless of their financial background.
The University of Souk Ahras actively promotes this transportation program as part of its commitment to sustainable practices. By encouraging students to utilize public buses instead of private vehicles, the university helps reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions. The initiative also fosters a sense of community among students, as they travel together from their neighborhoods, university residences, or dormitories to the campus. 11.4.3 – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Souk Ahras embraced and expanded the culture of remote work in 2021, particularly for academic staff. This shift included the use of online platforms for teaching, exploratory lectures, and virtual meetings. The Distance Education Platform, operational since 2012, became a key tool for delivering courses to students unable to commute. The pandemic highlighted its benefits, such as reducing traffic and environmental impact, leading the university to formally integrate online learning into all its programs. Secondary unit courses are now regularly scheduled online on Saturdays, as reflected in the official timetables.
The broader digitization efforts by the Algerian government also contributed to the university’s transition, particularly through the implementation of the Progres platform. This system has streamlined numerous administrative, pedagogical, and research tasks, enabling department heads, deans, and research managers to work remotely. It also provides students with convenient access to exam results and the ability to submit appeals online, minimizing the need for physical visits to campus.
11.4.4 – The University of Souk Ahras regularly informs its staff about opportunities to apply for LPA (Assisted Public Housing), following the guidelines set by the Algerian Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City. Over the years, many employees have benefited from this subsidized housing program, including 60 staff members in 2019. A new application round was also announced for 2023.
In 2023, the university facilitated housing for over 200 employees at affordable rates of 6,000 DZD (approximately 38 euros) per month, paid in several instalments. Additionally, financial assistance of 1,500 DZD (about 9.6 euros) per month was provided to staff who had not yet secured housing, supporting their accommodation needs.
11.4.5 – Accommodation at the University of Souk Ahras, managed by the Directorate of University Services, is a free public service. It is part of the National Office for University Services, which oversees 466 residence halls nationwide, housing over 250,000 students annually. Additionally, 5,540 international students benefit from this service. The Progres system, implemented in 2017-2018, has simplified the accommodation process, requiring only three documents. University enrollment for new baccalaureate holders is now fully digital. Resident students must follow internal regulations to ensure proper conduct and the protection of the facilities.

11.4.6 – The University of Souk Ahras features numerous pedestrian walkways designed to prioritize foot traffic over vehicles. These pathways seamlessly connect the various faculties, departments, classrooms, auditorium, libraries, scientific laboratories, administration offices, restaurants, and other university facilities.



11.4.7 – In 2023, the University of Souk Ahras collaborated with local authorities to address planning and development issues through an agreement signed with the Directorate of Housing of Souk Ahras. The university also worked to empower local residents to access affordable housing through various programs, including LPA, AADL, and social housing.

11.4.8 – Since 2022, the University of Souk Ahras has expanded its infrastructure with the addition of several new buildings, all constructed in full compliance with modern sustainability standards. These buildings are designed to minimize environmental impact, featuring energy-efficient systems. The new facilities include green roofs, optimized natural lighting, water conservation technologies, and improved insulation, reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainable development and reducing its carbon footprint.



11.4.9 – Since its establishment, the administration of the University of Souk Ahras has made significant efforts to develop its campus on previously abandoned or underutilized land. This strategic choice has contributed to the urban expansion of the region, transforming once neglected areas into vibrant, developed zones. The construction of university facilities has acted as a catalyst for local development, attracting various residential and administrative projects. As a result, several new structures have been built near the university, including residential buildings, a judicial council complex, a civil protection headquarters, and other key infrastructure, boosting the local economy and enhancing public services in the area.
